Significance & innovative aspects:
Music and Dance, while often placed at the peripheries of contemporary research, provide valuable doorways into the social aspects of other cultures. The rich variety of music and dance in the Indonesian archipelago can inform us about the lives, history and identity of its people. It also provides an intimate familiarity with other communities as well as being a platform for inter-cultural exchange. The Music and Movements in Indonesian Culture conference opens academic research out to a wider audience. The holistic integration of theoretical discussion and hands-on experience will open doorways for inter-disciplinary dialogue and community awareness.
